Welcome to Fifth

Hello 5th grader,
It’s almost back to school time! I wanted to write you to let you know that I am beyond EXCITED
about the upcoming school year! We are going to rock the socks off of 5th grade. This year is going to
be packed full of fun activities, high level thinking, and growing into a responsible and independent
learner.
In fifth grade, you will become an expert in decimals and fractions, dive into early US History and jump
into Life Science. You will utilize technology like google classroom to create your own passion project.
You will read every day and through all the things you read, you will learn about this amazing world we
live in. You will write opinion essays and letters about real issues facing you or the world, and you will
write stories with plots and action. You will research and create new ideas and maybe even invent
something. You will explore empathy and kindness and being the big kids of the school, you will be a
mentor and a wonderful example for the younger kids here at Glacier Gateway. You will switch classes a
few times a day, and we will give you many lessons and opportunities on becoming organized with your
things and your time. You are getting prepared for middle school, so you’ll have a planner, too. You will
also be following the 4 B’s this year: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be a Learner.
Oh, and last but not least... you will be going on some pretty epic field trips, and will have opportunities to
lead the school-wide morning announcements (and maybe be on the big screen), and participate in student
council!
Those are just a FEW of the amazing things happening in 5th grade this year. You will laugh a lot because
it will be FUN and you also will push yourself harder than ever before. We will create a home away from
home in our classroom and we will be there for each other through thick and thin this year. We are a team
in Mrs. Jones’ class!  Fifth grade is going to be an incredible year for you. I cannot wait to see all the things
you accomplish!

Love,
Mrs. Jones
